1985 Membership started with 50, Gained 2, Lost 3, ended year with 49.  Theme for the Year “You are the Key” our president was Robert Duncan. 

Peter Baker elected  District Community Convener.

Clubs Nominee Rodger Hunter granted Foundation Award with a years study in America.

Support for the Annual dance was  up with 97 members & friends attended. The Clubs 21st anniversary dinner  held  in the Ballerup Halls.

Twinning Link with Ballerup Rotary Club,
this visit was put together at short notice and hotel accommodation in East Kilbride was not available. The Danish party of 12 booked themselves into the Ingram Hotel in Glasgow. Rotarian Ian Macpherson arranged transport from the Development Corporation to enable the Danes to be uplifted and transported to the “May Ball” being held in the Bruce Hotel, East Kilbride. Rotarian Edwin Robertson accompanied the Danes on both journeys.

Friday 15th May 1987, Ole Brammer from the Rotary Club of Ballerup made a special visit to present the clubs first award of a Paul Harris Fellowship to Joe Strang.
Youth exchange hosted by members.

Widows & Orphans outing to Cumnock saw 84 kids, 48 adults  being hosted at a cost £574. Race night held &  Rent a Doo’ brought into the Club much needed charity money.

This is a recorded thanks to Rotarian George Pollock who on an annual basis has been running pigeon races and brought into the Club much need charity money.

Rotarian Peter Baker re-elected District Community Convener.

Emergency boxes and eye camps again supported.

Club helped in refurbishing Laburnum House in East Kilbride.

Youth Exchange  hosts were Eddie & Rina Robertson. Henry & Mary Doig.


1987 Membership started with 48, Gained 1, Lost 3, ended year with 46.Theme for the Year “United in Service dedicated to Peace” 

Polio Plus Award given to the Club. Our club gave the highest amount of any club in the District, even although there was a considerable amount of discussion about being dictated to by  Rotary International.

Talking Newspapers for the Blind were in difficulty Rotary stepping in to help.

Club Gifted £50.00 to Robert Owen Centre £50.00 to Greenburn School and £58.00 to Crossroads.

Club agrees to take part in Polio Plus
